Position Summary
South County Mental Health Center, Inc. is seeking a Pre-vocational Counselor to provide direct services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness in the Day Treatment Program. This position provides psychosocial skill-building groups and activities, monitors client wellbeing, develops program plans, and supports clients in building skills for greater independence.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral or Social Sciences.
- Ability to assess client behaviors and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Ability to communicate client and program concerns accurately and in a timely manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer and internet skills.
- Ability to use Zoom.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to be insured.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral or Social Sciences with at least six (6) months of experience in Behavioral or Social Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Client Services — 50%
- Create and facilitate psychosocial skill-building groups.
- Monitor and assess client behavior and wellbeing on a daily basis.
- Develop treatment and program plans for clients.
- Create and facilitate special projects and activities.
- Supervise clients during program activities.
Documentation & Program Planning — 20%
- Prepare and update individual treatment and program plans.
- Complete progress reviews.
- Complete daily progress notes.
- Complete weekly summaries, when applicable.
- Maintain accurate and timely client documentation.
Supervision & Team Collaboration — 15%
- Attend morning program meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in client staffings with members of the treatment team.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Complete required trainings.
- Communicate and collaborate with residential and case management staff.
Program Support & Professional Development — 15%
- Assist with lunch service on a daily basis.
- Participate in staff development, trainings, and in-service activities.
- Develop familiarity with various SCMHC departments and functions.
- Participate in committees as assigned.
- Complete required annual staff development trainings.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate client and program issues verbally and in writing.
- Ability to facilitate psychosocial skill-building groups and activities.
- Ability to develop and monitor treatment and program plans.
- Ability to work collaboratively with treatment, residential, and case management teams.
- Basic computer, internet, typing, and Zoom skills.
Physical Demands
- Position involves direct interaction with adult clients throughout the program day.
- May require standing, walking, and supervising clients during program activities.
- Ability to participate in group activities and assist with daily program operations.
Working Conditions
- Day Treatment Program environment serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Frequent interaction with clients and members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- May require participation in program activities, meetings, trainings, and community-related activities.
Performance Standards
Performance will be evaluated based on:
- Quality and effectiveness of psychosocial skill-building groups and activities.
- Appropriate monitoring and assessment of client behavior and wellbeing.
- Accuracy and timeliness of treatment plans, progress notes, and other documentation.
- Effective participation in treatment team meetings and client staffings.
- Professional communication and collaboration with residential and case management staff.
- Completion of required training and professional development activities.
- Ability to support a safe, structured, and therapeutic program environment.
